Saturday's College Football Best Bets: Advice, picks, odds, player props for Week 5
Boston College QB Phil Jurkovec OVER 202.5 passing yards (-115)
Jurkovec and the Eagles have gotten off to a horrid start to begin the season, entering Week 5 with a 1-3 overall record. With Jurkovec's passing yard over/under sitting at an attainable 202.5 yards, we think he goes OVER that number fairly comfortably. Boston College is north of a two-touchdown home underdog, which basically implies it's going to be in a negative game script for the majority of the contest. That's going to result in a high number of pass attempts from Jurkovec, which can result in him eclipsing 203 passing yards. Louisville's pass defense is also fairly weak, as the Cardinals sport the 47th-worst coverage grade per PFF (66.9).
Michigan WR Ronnie Bell UNDER 62.5 receiving yards (-115)
Bell is Michigan's No. 1 wideout but draws a tough matchup against an Iowa defense that sports PFF's third-best coverage grade (92.8). Cornerbacks Cooper DeJean and Riley Moss are two of the better corners in the Big Ten, and with Michigan likely relying on the ground game with a heavy dosage of Blake Corum, it could result in Bell failing to reach 63 receiving yards.
2022 CFB ODDS: Heisman | CFP and National Champion
Minnesota RB Mohamed Ibrahim OVER 116.5 rushing yards (-119)
Ibrahim is the nation's second-leading rusher entering Week 5 with 567 rushing yards on 89 carries. HIs large workload (over 22 carries per game) can lead him to another big day on the ground against a Purdue defense that just allowed 189 rushing yards to Florida Atlantic. A 20-plus carry day will likely result in the power back logging OVER 116.5 rushing yards.
Michigan State RB Jalen Berger OVER 50.5 rushing yards (-115)
Staying in the Big Ten, Michigan State RB Jalen Berger's rushing yards over/under is a bit too low, warranting a wager on him to eclipse 51 rushing yards. Berger started the season with back-to-back 100-yard rushing outputs against Western Michigan and Akron but has failed to reach 30-rushing yards in back-to-back games. A big reason Berger's been unable to rack up rushing yards has been due to him being scripted out of the past two games with Michigan State falling behind early. There's a chance Sparty remains competitive with Maryland, staying within a score for the majority of the contest, which would allow for Berger to get 10-plus carries.
California RB Jaydn Ott OVER 0.5 rushing TDs (-145)
Ott's coming off a massive Week 4 showing in Cal's 49-31 win over Arizona, rushing for 245 yards and three scores on just 19 carries. While it's unlikely Ott replicates that output this week, he has a good chance to land in the end zone at least once against a Washington State defense that isn't anything special against the run. With plenty of points expected in a game with an over/under of 53.5 points, look for Ott to reach paydirt this Saturday.
Kansas State WR Malik Knowles OVER 44.5 receiving yards (-115)
Knowles enters Week 5 as the Wildcats' leading receiving (14 receptions, 144 receiving yards) and is a reliable target of Adrian Martinez's in the passing game. Knowles has the chance to reach 45 receiving yards in a game where the Wildcats could be forced into throwing more than normal, as Texas Tech is going to challenge Kansas State. Knowles is averaging 10.3 yards per reception and a five-catch, 50-yard output is not out of the realm of possibility.
