Virginia Tech cornerback Caleb Farley on Wednesday became the second FBS player to opt out of the 2020 college football season.

Farley was a second-team selection on Sporting News' Preseason All-American team . He is the second player to opt out. Illinois running Ra'Von Bonner opted out of the season Tuesday.

Farley provided an announcement on Twitter via ESPN's Adam Schefter. Farley said he made his decision "due to uncertain health conditions and regulations and all the other opt-outs going on in football right now."

Farley also mentioned his mother Robin, who died on Jan. 2, 2018.

Farley totaled 56 tackles and six interceptions the past two seasons for the Hokies. He will now prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft, and it will be interesting to see which FBS players follow the same path.

The ACC has yet to make a decision on its 2020 football schedule amid continued concerns about the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in the United States.
