Bryce Hall injury update: Virginia cornerback (ankle) carted off field against Miami image

Virginia cornerback Bryce Hall was carted off the field with a gruesome ankle injury during Friday's 17-9 loss to Miami.

Hall was injured while playing in punt coverage when he got tangled up with a Miami player. He laid on the field before the team's medical staff attended to him. They quickly put an air cast on the injury and "covered it with towels to shield others from seeing the severity," ESPN notes.

His teammates and several Miami players gathered around Hall before he was carted off.

“That was heartbreaking for our defense,” Virginia linebacker Zane Zandier said (per The Daily Progress). “Being one of the leaders, (he’s) just one of those guys you always turn to in any situation. He’s always a steady and sturdy guy. Yeah, it sucks to see him go down.”

Virginia coach Bronco Mendenhall didn't provide any further update after the game other than confirming Hall's injury was to his ankle.

“Our defense played really, really well once Bryce Hall went down,” Mendenhall said.

Hall, who made his 39th consecutive start Friday, led the Cavaliers with four breakups and 19 tackles this season entering the game.

The cornerback is considered by many to be a top prospect in the 2020 NFL Draft.
