The Manning brothers' legacy is in good hands.
Arch Manning, their nephew, made his second collegiate start at the helm of the No. 1 Texas on Saturday, and he did not disappoint. In a 35-13 thumping of Mississippi State at home, he completed 26-of-31 passes for 324 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.
He also had a chance to show off his impressive speed, taking six carries for 33 yards and a rushing score. With the win, Manning helped Texas to its second consecutive 5-0 start under head coach Steve Sarkisian.
For two games in a row, Manning has affirmed he was the right choice to replace Quinn Ewers under center. Texas' starting quarterback went down with an abdominal injury in the team's third game against UTSA and has yet to fully recover.
This could be the last time Manning takes the field this season, though. Before the game, ESPN's Pete Thamel revealed Ewers could have played against the Bulldogs, but Sarkisian chose to rest him in hopes that he's ready to go before the team faces rival Oklahoma on Oct. 12 in the notorious and ever-important Red River Showdown. Next weekend Texas will enjoy a bye week, giving the quarterback even more time to rest.

(All times ET)
Final: Texas 35, Mississippi State 13
7:38 p.m. — Mississippi turns it over on downs at their own 44 and Manning will have one last drive with 1:11 to go. He hands it off the Gibson for a 2-yard gain before kneeling it out for the win.
7:34 p.m. — The clock winds down to the two-minute warning and the Bulldogs have a fresh set of downs on their own 49. It's to be determined whether Manning sees the field again today.
7:29 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN TEXAS! Bond receives the final handoff of the drive and speedily gets around the left edge, sprinting into the end zone for the score. The kick is good, and the Longhorns extend the lead to 22 once again. Manning threw only one pass in the three-minute drive.

7:27 p.m. — Wisner takes it again for one yard and Manning appears uncomfortable, pointing at his hip and jogging to the sideline. Sarkisian takes a timeout before Manning jogs back out on second-and-nine from the Mississippi 26.
7:25 p.m. — Another handoff goes to Wisner, but he is brought down for a loss of four at the Bulldog 41. On second-and-long, Manning finds Golden at the right sideline for a first down and gain of 14.
7:22 p.m. — It's Wisner again with a 13-yard run and another fresh set of downs at the Bulldog 37. A Mississippi defender is injured on the play and there is a pause on the field.
7:20 p.m. — Mississippi's kick is fair caught at the Texas 28. Manning's first two handoffs go to Wisner for 14 yards and a first down. The third snap of the drive goes to the running back as well, who takes it forward for eight to the 50.
7:15 p.m. — Van Buren runs it in from 12 yards out for the Bulldogs' first score of the half. Ferrie hits the extra point, and the deficit is narrowed back to 15 with 6:12 remaining.
7:10 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN LONGHORNS! Manning completes a beautiful rainbow of a pass to Moore, the pair's second score of the day. The extra point is good and Texas' lead grows to 22 with under 10 minutes to go.

7:08 p.m. — Manning finds Wingo for 10 yards before passing to Golden at the six. Another penalty is called on the Longhorn offensive line, though, bringing up third-and-nine.
7:06 p.m. — Wisner gets the next snap and finds a hole, fighting off contact on his way to a 20-yard score. However, a flag is thrown and it goes against Texas, taking the points off the board and setting up second-and-12 at the Bulldog 30.
7:04 p.m. — Gibson takes two handoffs for a total of 12 yards for another fresh set of downs at the 28. Manning fakes a handoff and almost is closed in on in the pocket, but he finds Gibson again across his body, who takes it forward for eight.
7:02 p.m. — Manning's first pass goes to Moore for a gain of seven. Then, he hands it off to Wisner, who breaks free and runs it all the way to the Bulldog 40 for a 38-yard gain and a first down.
7 p.m. — The Bulldogs punt it from their own 25 after falling to fourth-and-long after two delay-of-game penalties. And you bet it was loud in there too. Texas downs it at its own 15 with 12:38 left in regulation.
End of third quarter: Texas 28, Mississippi State 6
6:45 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN MANNING! Finally, on third-and-goal, the quarterback sneaks it over the line for six points as the clock expires to end the quarter. Auburn hits the extra point, and Texas leads by 15.

6:43 p.m. — Manning sneaks it but is stopped inches short of the goal line. The officials take longer than usual to spot the ball under the pile and the play clock does not reset, forcing Sarkisian to take a timeout. However, the referee clarifies he requested the clock to stop and Texas would not be charged a timeout.
6:42 p.m. — The call is confirmed, and Texas gets the ball with-first and-goal. Wisner takes the next handoff and gets around the right edge. He appears to come down with the ball in the end zone and the officials rule it a score. However, after further review, Wisner's knee was down at the one for no gain, bringing up second down.
6:40 p.m. — On second-and-seven, Manning scrambles again and breaks a tackle before sprinting up the right sideline. He takes contact around the five yard line and stretches toward the end zone as he dives out of bounds. Manning is initially ruled out at the one, but the play is under review.

6:38 p.m. — Gibson gets the next handoff and runs two yards for a first down. Just after the next snap, Majors is called for an illegal snap setting Texas back five yards. Manning then takes it himself for an 8-yard gain, ending in a big hit.
6:35 p.m. — Campbell is called for a false start on the next snap, bringing up first-and-long. Manning hands it off back-to-back to Wisner for a total of 14 yards to the Bulldog 32, just one yard short of the marker. Sarkisian quickly calls a timeout on third down.
6:33 p.m. — Manning passes left down the line to Bolden, who runs it forward for a gain of three. Cook then catches a 31-yard pass from Manning before he is tripped up on the sideline at the Mississippi 41.
6:30 p.m. — The Bulldogs punt from their own 41 after failing to convert on third-and-long. Bolden returns it for 20 yards to the Longhorn 25.
6:22 p.m. — Surprisingly, Sarkisian elects to go for it and take the points off the board Manning's pass toward the right sideline is bobbled and incomplete, resulting on a turnover on downs. Mississippi regains possession in their own half with just over 10 minutes left in the quarter.
6:20 p.m. — Auburn jogs on for a 49-yard try, which he doinks off the upright and in to take a 17-6 lead. However, another flag is thrown on the play, this time in the Longhorns' favor. A defender jumped offsides, moving Texas up to the Bulldog 26 for fourth-and-3.
6:18 p.m. — Another penalty strikes the Longhorns, an offensive holding that brings back a 23-yard gain on a pass by Manning to Bond. He finds Helm on the next play, but the tight end only gains nine of the 17 yards needed for the first down.
6:16 p.m. — Manning gives it to Wisner yet again for three more yards to the Mississippi 26, bringing up third-and-three. Helm jumps into the neutral zone early on the next play, though, prompting a false start penalty and pushing Texas back to the 31.
6:14 p.m. — Wisner takes the next handoff for four yards and a Bulldog defender goes down, causing a break in play.
6:12 p.m. — Manning finds Golden for a 9-yard gain just short of the marker on the first play of the drive. The quarterback gets out of the pocket on the next play with some contact before he is sacked. However, his face mask was tugged just after the snap, eliciting a 15-yard penalty to set up first down at the Bulldogs 33.
6:09 p.m. — In a surprising turn of events, the third play of Mississippi's drive Van Buren is sacked for a loss of eight and loses the ball. It's recovered by Texas' Broughton, who turns it back over to the Longhorns at their own 43.

6:07 p.m. — The officials conclude Blue's knee was indeed not down when the ball came out, meaning the Bulldogs gain possession at the Texas 46.
6:05 p.m. — The end of Blue's run is under review. He was ruled down by contact, but the ball came out and a Mississippi State player got on top of it. However, the replay seems to show it was knocked out before his knee hit the ground. A ruling is pending.
6:04 p.m. — The Bulldogs kick off the second half with a touchback and Texas gets it at their own 25. Manning hands the first snap off to Blue for a 19-yard gain to the Longhorn 44.
Halftime: Texas 14, Mississippi State 6
5:40 p.m. — The half expires and the Longhorns head into the locker room with a sizable lead. Manning's 49-yard touchdown pass was his eighth of the season through two full games played and partial performances in three others, including today.
5:37 p.m. — TOUCHDOWN TEXAS! Manning is not discouraged by third down and finds Moore up the left sideline for an impressive 49-yard score to give Texas a bigger lead before halftime. The extra point is good, and the Bulldogs have 29 seconds to close a 14-6 gap.

5:35 p.m. — Manning overthrows a receiver deep on the right sideline to set up another third down. He then hands it off to Blue who runs for seven and a fresh set of downs at the Ole Miss 39. However, a holding is called on the next play and the Longhorns are set back to replay third-and-9.
5:33 p.m. — Manning & Co. get the ball at their own 35 after a touchback. Blue ran for four yards, then Manning completed a pass to Wingo who was brought down for a loss of two. On third-and-8, the quarterback saves the drive back-to-back completions for a total of 17 yards and a first down at the 50.
5:30 p.m. — The Bulldogs scored a 32-yard field goal to make it a one-point game, 7-6 Texas.
5:18 p.m. — Manning completed another pass, this one to Matthew Golden for four yards — but on the next play, a third-and-9 from the Texas 38, a receiver dropped a would-be touchdown. Texas punted the ball away on the next play.
5:16 p.m. — Manning and Texas started their drive at their own 25-yard line, and Manning completed a 12-yard pass to Quintrevion Wisner on the opening play.
5:10 p.m. — The Bulldogs scored a 45-yard field goal to cut the Longhorns' lead to 7-3.
5:07 p.m. — Manning hit Helm for a seven-yard completion on third down, but the Longhorns were forced to punt the ball on fourth down. And the punt went awry, as Zakari Tillman blocked the ball for the Bulldogs to give them possession on the Texas 37.
5:05 p.m. — Texas got the ball back after a punt from Mississippi State. But Manning looked shaky for the first time all day to start the drive, with an incomplete pass on the first play and then a sack for a loss of two yards.
End of first quarter: Texas 7, Mississippi State 0
4:55 p.m. — Mississippi State will begin the second quarter facing a first-and-20 at its own 34-yard line after a holding penalty.
4:47 p.m. — Texas running back Jaydon Blue fumbled the ball at the Mississippi State 21, cutting the Longhorns' drive short with 2:38 remaining in the first quarter.
4:45 p.m. — After his first incompletion of the day on first-and-10 from the Mississippi State 46, Manning again found Bond, this time for a 17-yard completion to the 29-yard line. He followed that with a short toss to Gunnar Helm for a 5-yard completion.
4:42 p.m. — Texas regained possession after a three-and-out for Mississippi State, and Manning immediately completed a 27-yard strike to Isaiah Bond.
4:37 p.m. — Manning went 4-for-4 on the Longhorns' opening drive, including completions of 22, 20, 16 and minus-2 yards. Jaydon Blue punched the ball in from the 1-yard line for a touchdown, and Texas finished the drive with a 7-0 lead.
