South Carolina did not have the start to its season that it wanted. The Gamecocks' season remains marred by a Week 1 stunning loss when, after leading 20-9 after three quarters to UNC, the Tar Heels stormed back with 15 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to win 24-20.
Will Muschamp's squad came back for a 72-10 blowout of Charleston Southern in his team's first 2019 game in Columbia, but it has about as rude of an awakening Saturday as a team can ask for: it will face No. 2 Alabama.
Sure, the Gamecocks will host the Crimson Tide at Williams-Brice Stadium, but Alabama enters expecting to thoroughly dominate their SEC opponent.

There is still plenty of reason for South Carolina fans to be excited for this game. Freshman Ryan Hilinski will be making his second career start after coming to Columbia as a four-star recruit and the No. 2 pro-style QB in the 2019 class, per 247 Sports Composite Rankings. This comes after longtime starter Will Bentley was forced to end his season with foot surgery.
If Hilinski pulls off the miracle and beats the Crimson Tide, he would be only the fifth freshman quarterback to beat the Nick Saban-led Crimson Tide. The list of freshmen who have taken down Saban were Trevor Lawrence, Johnny Manziel, Wesley Carroll and Trevor Knight. In his first career start against Charleston Southern, Hilinski completed 24 of 30 passes for 282 yards with two touchdown and one interception.
For the Crimson Tide, this should be yet another chance for junior Tua Tagovailoa to rack up gaudy numbers as he tries to become Alabama's first Heisman Trophy winner since Derrick Henry in 2015. Tagovailoa has completed 42 of 55 passes — seven have gone for touchdowns — with 563 passing yards and no interceptions. He has also rushed seven times for 48 yards and a touchdown.
