Alabama and Texas football have announced a home-and-home series for the 2022 and '23 seasons, the schools announced on Wednesday.

It will be the teams' 10th and 11th meetings overall, and just their first since the 2010 BCS national championship game. Alabama will travel to Austin in 2022, with Texas making the trip to Tuscaloosa the following year. The Longhorns hold a 7-1-1 all-time advantage over the Crimson Tide.

“We are pleased and happy to be able to add an opponent the caliber of the University of Texas to our nonconference schedule,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said in a statement. “The Crimson Tide and Longhorns have played a lot of memorable games over the years and the addition of this home-and-home series will be great for not only our fans, but fans of college football.”

With Texas on its future schedule, Alabama is now scheduled to play nonconference opponents Louisville (2018), Duke (2019), USC (2020) Miami (2021) and Notre Dame (2028-29). Prior to Alabama's scheduled series with Texas and Notre Dame, the Tide had only participated in one during the Saban era, sweeping Penn State in 2010-11.

Texas is in the middle of a home-and-home series with USC and Maryland, and will play future series against LSU (2019-20) and Michigan (2024, '27), among others, according to FBSSchedules.com. Texas and Ohio State, originally scheduled to meet in 2022-23, have mutually agreed to reschedule for the 2025-26 seasons.

As for the Alabama-Texas all-time series, the teams first met in Tuscaloosa in 1902, followed by games in Austin in 1915 and '22. The teams also met in the 1948 Sugar Bowl, 1960 Bluebonnet Bowl, 1965 Orange Bowl and 1973 and '82 Cotton Bowls, with the Tide winning their first game of the series in the 2010 BCS national championship game.

The two teams have combined for 20 AP or Coaches national titles, 1,789 all-time victories, 122 consensus All-Americans (54 unanimous), four Heisman winners and 29 College Football Hall of Fame inductees.
