The second-ranked Jayhawks were unable to beat the zone Wednesday and lost for the first time.

A 74-65 loss to Washington was the second straight game Kansas (7-1) struggled against a zone defense.

Kansas entered as 23-point favorites against Washington at Sprint Center in Kansas City, but a cold shooting night against the zone led to the Hawks' demise.

Coming off a 16-point win over Syracuse in which Devonte Graham matched his career-high with 35 points, Kansas was unable to convert from deep against Washington's zone as they knocked down just five 3-pointers and Graham was held to just three points on 1-of-8 shooting.

While Kansas was unable to drain 3-pointers, Washington, which entered shooting 32 percent beyond the arc, hit nine treys led by Matisse Thybulle's five deep balls.

LaGerald Vick did all he could do to keep Kansas in the game, scoring 28 points with five rebounds and seven assists, but ultimately Graham's poor night cost the Hawks the victory.

With Kansas in the loss column, Duke, Florida State, Miami, TCU, Villanova, Georgetown, Valparaiso, Arizona State, and Mississippi State are the remaining unbeaten teams in D-I basketball.
