There’s probably little doubt about who will take home the SEC Tournament championship title. But with March Madness is on the horizon, anything can happen.
South Carolina has been playing a massive and menacing game. The last time a team went straight through undefeated was during the 2015-16 season, when the UConn women cut down the nets with an overall record of 38-0 for their fourth NCAA championship title.
Reigning national player of the year Aliyah Boston and the Gamecocks (31-0) have plowed through the SEC Tournament as expected, cheered on by what amounts to a home crowd in Greenville, South Carolina. But coach Dawn Staley won't need to remind her veteran team that their last loss came in a stunning upset by seventh-seeded Kentucky in last year's SEC Tournament final.
The Gamecocks will try to avoid a repeat of that setback Sunday as they face third-seeded Tennessee for the championship. The Lady Vols came from behind in the semifinals to stun LSU, which had dropped only one game all season — to South Carolina, naturally.
Here's what to know as the SEC's most storied program faces off against the school that has dominated the league in recent years for the tournament title on Sunday.
