The Raptors are getting busy at the trade deadline.
Toronto landed Spencer Dinwiddie from the Nets, marking the team's second deal of the day. Earlier on Thursday, the Raptors acquired Kelly Olynyk and Ochai Agbaji from the Jazz for Kira Lewis Jr., Otto Porter Jr. and a 2024 first-round pick.
The Raptors won't hold onto Dinwiddie, though. Toronto announced it has waived the veteran point guard, allowing him to become a free agent.
Why did the Raptors waive Dinwiddie and what did they give up to get him? The Sporting News has you covered with trade details below.

Spencer Dinwiddie trade details
Raptors receive:
- Spencer Dinwiddie
Nets receive:
- Dennis Schroder
- Thaddeus Young
The Raptors are sending Schroder and Young to the Nets for Dinwiddie, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Ensuingly, Toronto will waive Dinwiddie before he hits a $1.5 million bonus for games played in his contract.
Both Schroder and Dinwiddie are 30 years old. Schroder is averaging 13.7 points and 6.1 assists per game while Dinwiddie is posting 12.6 points and 6.0 assists per game.
Even with the two guards being so similar, the deal favored Toronto because Dinwiddie was on an expiring contract. Schroder still has one year and $13 million left on the two-year, $25.4 million deal he signed with the Raptors this offseason. Young is also on an expiring contract, set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2024.

After moving Anunoby to the Knicks and Pascal Siakam to the Pacers, Toronto has signaled a full rebuild around first-time All-Star Scottie Barnes. It has brought in a group of talented players, headlined by Agbaji, Olynyk, R.J. Barrett and Immanuel Quickley.
As the Raptors continue to overhaul their roster, it made more sense to trade for Dinwiddie — and waive him — than to hold onto Schroder's contract for another season.
They also elected to keep Bruce Brown Jr. on the roster, giving themselves plenty of trade flexibility this offseason with Brown's $23 million team option.
