Scottie Barnes contract details: Extension makes All-Star highest paid player in Raptors history image

The Raptors are making Scottie Barnes the face of their franchise for the foreseeable future.

The All-Star forward, who will turn 23 in August, has agreed to a five-year max contract extension worth up to $270 million with Toronto, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Barnes would have been a restricted free agent following the 2024-25 season if not extended.

Barnes has excelled in his three years in the NBA, blossoming into an All-Star in year three after winning Rookie of the Year in 2021-22. He'll be the focal point of Toronto's rebuild after the franchise moved on from Fred VanVleet, O.G. Anunoby and Pascal Siakam.

With this deal, Barnes becomes the highest-paid player in franchise history. Here's a look at what his max extension projects to be.

Barnes has reportedly agreed to a five-year deal that could be worth as much as $270 million if he earns an All-NBA nod, wins Defensive Player of the Year or earns MVP. He'd earn $54 million per season under this value.

Without the incentives, Barnes' contract is closer to a five-year, $224.9 million deal that would give him an average of nearly $45 million per season.

Barnes is in line for a nice payday starting in the 2025-26 season. He's entering his fourth and final year of his rookie contract, so the extension will kick in during his fifth season.

2024-25$10,130,980
2025-26$38,775,000
2026-27$41,877,000
2027-28$44,979,000
2028-29$48,081,000
2029-30$51,183,000

Toronto made it clear that Barnes will be the franchise cornerstone after trading Anunoby and Siakam this past season, and this extension solidifies their commitment to their young All-Star forward.
