Training camp is still two months away, but the Raptors have set their roster.

On Aug. 1, the Raptors announced that they have signed Garrett Temple, Kevin Obanor and Mouhamadou Gueye ahead of the 2023-24 season. Those signings bring their roster to a maximum of 21 players.

Not all of those are guaranteed, of course. The majority of them are, but the Raptors have also signed a number of players to two-way, Exhibit 10 and training camp deals.

Here's where Toronto's roster stands and how its depth chart is shaping up for the upcoming season.

Breaking down Raptors' training camp roster

NBA teams are allowed to carry a total of 21 players on their roster during the offseason, but that number has to be cut down to 15 players by the start of the regular season. That does not include two-way contracts, which allow players to split time between the NBA and G League.

Under the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, teams can now sign three players to two-way contracts.

The Raptors have 21 players on their roster ahead of training camp, 15 of which are guaranteed. They have also filled their three two-way contracts. The remaining spots are made up of Exhibit 10 and training camp contracts.

An Exhibit 10 contract is a one-year, minimum salary contract. They can be converted into two-way contracts before the start of the regular season. If the player is waived, they receive a bonus of up to $75,000 if they remain with the NBA team's G League affiliate for 60 days.

The only player on Toronto's roster currently on a training camp deal is Jeff Dowtin Jr. According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, Dowtin has a "significant salary guarantee" if he makes the team's opening night roster.

With 15 players already on guaranteed rosters, the Raptors would have cut someone to make room for Dowtin.

Projecting Raptors' depth chart for 2023-24 season

It's safe to assume that O.G. Anunoby, Scottie Barnes, Pascal Siakam and Jakob Poeltl will be four of Toronto's five starters. The final spot will likely go to Dennis Schroder or Gary Trent Jr.

Schroder is better suited to replace Fred VanVleet because he's a point guard, but Trent's shooting would open up the floor more for Anunoby, Barnes, Siakam and Poeltl. Trent also has more chemistry with Anunoby, Barnes and Siakam, having played two and a half seasons with the Raptors.

Malachi Flynn's role has decreased since his rookie season, but he has a big opportunity as Toronto's only real point guard option beyond Schroder. The most competitive position will be at forward where Gradey Dick, Chris Boucher, Jalen McDaniels, Otto Porter Jr. and Thaddeus Young will compete for minutes.

When will training camp begin for the Raptors?

  • Date: Oct. 3, 2023

Since the Raptors aren't scheduled to play any preseason games outside of North America, they will open training camp on Oct. 3.

Preseason games will take place between Oct. 5 and Oct. 20. Teams will then have to set their opening night rosters by 5 p.m. ET on Oct. 23. The first games of the 2023-24 regular season will be played the following day (Oct. 24).
