The Nuggets selected Murray 7th overall in the 2016 NBA Draft. Murray went on to make All-Rookie that season.
He's coming off his best season in 2018-19 averaging a career-high 18.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.8 assists shooting 44% from the field in 75 games. The Nuggets finished with the second-best record in the Western Conference and battled the Portland Trail Blazers hard in the second round of the playoff before being eliminated in seven games.
With the team picking up Paul Millsap's $30 million team option earlier this month, Murray's extension was made easier. Murray's contract extension wouldn't begin until the 2020-21 season.
He has one year remaining on his rookie deal and will make $4.4 million in 2019-20.
According to ESPN's Bobby Marks, Murray's five-year extension would break down as follows:
Year | Salary |
2020-21 | $ 29.25M |
2021-22 | $ 31.59M |
2022-23 | $ 33.93M |
2023-24 | $ 36.27M |
2024-25 | $ 36.61M |
Murray is a large part of the Nuggets young promising core that includes Nikola Jokic, Gary Harris, Will Barton and Michael Porter Jr. The Nuggets also added intriguing prospect Bol Bol in the NBA Draft a week ago.
Murray would be eligible to sign the extension as early as July 1st.
