Luka Doncic tattoos, explained: The meanings behind Mavericks star's back and arm ink image

Luka Doncic's one-of-a-kind game is equal parts style and substance. As the superstar guard looks to lead the Mavericks to the second championship in franchise history, his style is impossible to overlook.

Doncic, who has made No. 77 look cooler than it's ever looked on a basketball court, does so while wearing his own signature sneaker with Jordan Brand and showing off a collection of tattoos that has grown since he first arrived in the league.

From the half-sleeve on his left forearm to the back tattoos that are sometimes visible under his jersey, Doncic's tattoos certainly stand out. Here's what you need to know about the superstar's ink.

Luka Doncic's tattoos, explained

Luka Doncic's back tattoo

Doncic proudly represents his Slovenian heritage, as evidenced by one of his most notable tattoos. In the upper right section of Doncic's back, he has a tattoo of the world's seven continents with a crown and a basketball in place of his home continent of Europe.

The tattoo, which can be seen in full during a behind-the-scenes look at Doncic's draft night, is usually obstructed by his jersey on game days.

Pictures from early in Doncic's career suggest that this is one of his first tattoos, if not the first.

Non-desistas, Non-exieris

Doncic added the Latin phrase "Non-desistas Non exieris" to his left arm before any other significant tattoo additions. The phrase means "Never give up, Never surrender."

EuroBasket tattoo

In 2017, an 18-year-old Doncic helped lead Slovenia to the EuroBasket championship. To commemorate the historic victory, Doncic got the EuroBasket trophy and the date of Slovenia's title-clinching game inked on his ribs.

Yes, it's him.

Tiger

Doncic has a detailed portrait of a tiger on the inside of his left forearm. His forearm is now covered in ink but the tiger is the centerpiece.

He added this one during his final season with Real Madrid.

Eagle and Eye of Providence

Doncic arrived at the NBA in 2018 with a completed half-sleeve on his left forearm. Added to the tiger were an eagle and the Eye of Providence.

The new ink was visible during one of Doncic's first photoshoots as a member of the Mavericks and was shared by his tattoo artist, Rodrigo Galvez.

Doncic and Galvez again linked up in February 2023 but the artist did not share what he worked on. Doncic has another visible tattoo on the upper left side of his back which appears to be a broken clock, but there are no clear images of the full tattoo yet.
