"Growing up where I come from, sometimes it's hard to dream," Dort said in the video announcement. "But sometimes it's only a dream that can get you through hard times.
"My dream has always been to play in the NBA."
Dort led the Arizona State Sun Devils in scoring, averaging 16.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.5 steals in 31.5 minutes per game.
His resume features a bunch of accolades in his lone season at Arizona State, including Pac 12 Freshman of the Year, Pac 12 All-Defensive Team and Second-team All-Pac 12.
Dort busted onto the scene at the college level going off for 28 points, nine rebounds and three steals in his debut game for the Sun Devils.
He led his team to a first four win in the NCAA Tournament over St John's with a team-high 21 points and four rebounds. His final college game came in a loss to Buffalo University in the first round of the NCAA tournament. He finished with 12 points and three rebounds that night.
With Dort deciding to turn pro on Wednesday, there are now six Canadians in the 2019 NBA Draft. R.J. Barrett, Ignas Brazdeikis, Simi Shittu, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Mfiondu Kabengele have all already declared for the draft.
