LeBron James is set to return just in time for the Lakers' final playoff push.

After suffering a foot injury in late February, James was sidelined for weeks before the Lakers expressed optimism that he could return before the season ended. That optimism proved to be a positive harbinger of things to come.

The 2022-23 regular season will come to an end on April 9. The Play-In Tournament will take place between April 11-14, with the NBA Playoffs to follow on April 15.

Will James be back in time to help the Lakers make a playoff push? Here's what you need to know about his injury and status moving forward.

LeBron James foot injury update

The Lakers announced on March 2 that James sustained a right foot tendon injury and would be reevaluated in approximately three weeks.

On March 26, the Lakers announced that James would be active vs. the Bulls. After missing 13 games, James' return comes in a reserve role — his second time ever coming off the bench.

In James' absence, LA compiled an 8-5 record.

James suffered the injury in the third quarter of a comeback win over the Mavericks on Feb. 26. While he remained in the game, he was heard saying "I heard a pop" on the broadcast. He was later seen leaving the arena with a limp.

It was soon reported that James had no structural issues and would not need surgery.

Injuries have limited James to 47 games this season. He's played at an All-NBA level when healthy, averaging 29.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game while shooting 50.1 percent from the field.

Prior to his foot injury, James frequently showed up on the Lakers' injury report with left ankle soreness.
