It may be a new year, but the NBA Playoff series between the Lakers and Nuggets is following the same script.

Denver took a commanding 3-0 lead in the first-round matchup after handing Los Angeles a 112-105 loss on Thursday night. The Nuggets have defeated the Lakers in 11 consecutive games, and they are on track to pull off back-to-back sweeps.

Nikola Jokic has been the driving force for Denver, averaging 27.7 points, 15.7 rebounds, 8.7 assists and 1.7 steals through three playoff games. The Nuggets also have three other starters (Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr. and Aaron Gordon) posting at least 18 points per game.

Los Angeles has consistently built early leads against Denver behind stellar play from LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but the Lakers keep falling apart in the second half. They have an offensive rating of 95.7 and defensive rating of 128.3 in those halves, showing the massive gap in execution down the stretch.

Can Los Angeles extend the series? Or will Denver advance to the next round?
