How long is Kyrie Irving out? Calf injury timeline, return updates on Nets star image

The Nets are hoping to avoid a serious hit to their momentum as Kyrie Irving is now dealing with an injury.

Irving, who was held out of just one of the team's last 15 games (rest), has been added to Brooklyn's injury report with a calf issue. Since Irving returned to the lineup from a team-mandated suspension, the Nets have posted a 12-3 record, including six straight and 10 of 11 prior to the news regarding his calf.

As Brooklyn looks to continue its surge toward the top of the East standings, here's what we know about Irving's status with the Nets moving forward.

What is Kyrie Irving's injury?

Less than an hour ahead of a meeting with the Warriors on Dec. 21, Irving was a late scratch with right calf tightness.

Irving first noted calf tightness to head coach Jacque Vaughn after his pre-game workout on Dec. 21, and the decision to hold him out of the game was made after he was checked by the team's training staff.

In Brooklyn's most recent outing, Irving scored 38 points in 34 minutes of action and showed little-to-no signs of discomfort in a win over the Pistons on Dec. 18.

Over 22 games this season, Irving is averaging 26.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.

How long will Kyrie Irving be out?

Irving's status moving forward will largely be determined by the nature of his calf tightness and the precaution that the Nets training staff elects to take and the results of further testing.

After hosting the Warriors, six of the Nets' next eight games come on the road, beginning where Iriving's career began in Cleveland.
