Gary Trent Jr. could've been a free agent in the offseason, but he decided to stick with the Raptors.
The 24-year-old signed a three-year, $54 million extension with Toronto in 2021. His extension included a player option for the 2023-24 season, which Trent exercised to delay his free agency.
Trent is now set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2024 unless he and the Raptors come to terms on another extension. After Trent picked up his option, Bleacher Report's Chris Haynes reported that the two sides were working on "finalizing a lucrative multiyear extension." Three months later, however, nothing has materialized.
Here's more on Trent's contract situation and the extension he's eligible for.

Why hasn't Gary Trent Jr. signed an extension?
Trent is eligible to sign a four-year, $113.6 million extension with the Raptors, per Michael Grange of Sportsnet.
Sportsnet's Blake Murphy recently said on "The Lowe Post" that he was surprised by the report that Trent and the Raptors were nearing an extension because he had "always gotten the impression that Trent's camp had more expensive eyes than maybe the Raptors would with him."
ESPN's Zach Lowe added that Trent opting in could have been a tell that "they didn't find what they were perhaps looking for on the broader market."
The Raptors acquired Trent in the 2020-21 season. He had a breakout season in 2021-22, averaging a career-best 18.3 points per game while finishing near the top of the league in steals and deflections. He didn't make quite the same impact in 2022-23 and came off the bench in 22 of the 66 games he appeared in.
