The Canadians have already punched their ticket to the second round, but there's still one more game to be played.
Following convincing wins over France and Lebanon, Canada will close the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup's first round of group play on Tuesday when it faces Latvia. Both countries enter the game with a 2-0 record in the tournament.
Latvia is coming off of a thrilling come-from-behind win over France, in which it trailed by 12 points entering the third quarter. The victory eliminated France and secured Latvia a top-two finish in Group H.
Canada and Latvia still have something to play for because records from the first round carry over into the second round. Canada and Latvia will be re-grouped with two team teams from Group G to form a new group, Group L. In the second round, Canada will play the two members of Group L it hasn't played yet, and the top two teams from the group will move on to the knockout stages.
Spain, like Canada and Latvia, has already secured its spot in Group L. Staying undefeated after the first round gives a team a big advantage heading into the second round.
