Canada will be tested immediately in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Following a handful of exhibition games, Canada will open the Group Phase of the tournament with a matchup against an experienced French team.

France has already secured a spot in the Olympics as the host country, but it still fielded a talented roster for the World Cup that includes three-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert, Clippers forward Nicolas Batum and EuroLeague star Nando De Colo.

Gobert, Batum and De Colo helped France win a bronze medal at the last World Cup. France enters the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup ranked No. 2 in the world, five spots ahead of Canada.

Canada and France will crossover with Group G, which features Spain, Brazil, Iran and Cote D'Ivoire. The country that comes out on top on Friday could avoid facing Spain, the defending champions, in the second round of the Group Phase.
