Bam Adebayo has developed into one of the NBA's best all-around big men since being selected 14th overall by the Heat in the 2017 NBA Draft.
Adebayo has made one of the NBA's All-Defensive teams five times during his seven-year career and has been an All-Star in three of the last four seasons. He has been an excellent No. 2 option next to Jimmy Butler and averaged 19.3 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game for the Heat last season.
Miami decided to handsomely reward the soon-to-be 27-year-old for his performance. The Heat are making Adebayo one of the NBA's highest-paid players by signing the All-Defensive talent to a max contract.
Here's what to know about Adebayo's deal with the Heat.

Bam Adebayo contract details
The Heat are set to sign Adebayo to a three-year extension worth $166 million, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Adebayo's annual salary as a part of that deal will be roughly $55.3 million, which will make him the fifth-highest-paid NBA player in average annual value (AAV). Below is a look at who ranks ahead of Adebayo on that list, per Spotrac.com.
Rank | Player | Team | AAV |
1 | Anthony Davis | Lakers | $59 million |
2 | Giannis Antetokounmpo | Bucks | $58.6 million |
3 | Jaylen Brown | Celtics | $57.2 million |
4 | Damien Lillard | Bucks | $56.5 million |
5 | Bam Adebayo | Heat | $55.3 million |
While some other notable, young stars like Jayson Tatum could soon surpass Adebayo, the Heat star should still rank among the league's highest-paid centers for the duration of his contract, which runs through the 2028-29 NBA season.
That timeline will allow Adebayo to hit free agency again in advance of his age-32 season. That will position him well to land another high-end deal before his prime is past.
Bam Adebayo stats
Adebayo has averaged a double-double in three of his seven NBA seasons to date. Since becoming a full-time starter in 2019, Adebayo has averaged at least 15.9 points per game every season and no fewer than nine rebounds per game.
Adebayo's high-water mark for assists per game came during the 2020-21 season, when he notched 5.4 per game. He hasn't been as big of a playmaker in recent seasons, with Tyler Herro and Jimmy Butler taking on larger roles in that arena for the Heat.
