This was the third lottery in which the bottom three teams had an equal 14.0 percent chance of getting the No. 1 pick. In 2019, the New Orleans Pelicans won the lottery and selected Zion Williamson. In 2020, the Minnesota Timberwolves won the lottery and selected Anthony Edwards.
This will mark the fourth time Detroit has had the No. 1 pick. The first time they selected Jimmy Walker, all the way back in 1967. Their most recent No. 1 overall pick was back in 1970, when they selected Bob Lanier.
