Top Storylines & Highlights

Sudden-deaths in 2OT

Day 4 of the Las Vegas Summer League showcased not one but two sudden-death double-overtime games. In this new format, as the name suggests, the first team to score in double overtime via a field goal or a free-throw, after a two-minute first overtime period and the 40 minutes of regulation, wins. 

In the first double-overtime encounter, between the Miami Heat and Memphis Grizzlies, Max Strus was the clear standout. The 25-year-old is a two-year NBA veteran who played 39 games for the Heat last season. 

In this contest, he finished with a game-high tally 32 points including the sudden-death game-winning three.

The second time a sudden death was required is when the Utah Jazz and the Dallas Mavericks went head-to-head. 

A competitive game, that saw no team running away with it, the Jazz came out victorious. While Trent Forrest came up clutch and nailed the game-winning free-throw in double-overtime, after both teams went scoreless in the first extra session, Utah needed Elijah Hughes' clutch triple in the final seconds of regulation to force overtime. 

Mobley-Suggs duel

After Day 3 gave us the top two picks of the 2021 NBA Draft in Cade Cunningham and Jalen Green facing-off, Day 4 gave ups two of the top 5 picks in Evan Mobley and Jalen Suggs going head-to-head. 

Both top picks put on a show with all-round performances that saw the Cavaliers eventually winning 94-84.

Quickley, Toppin continue to impress

The Knicks remained unbeaten and improved to 2-0 with a 91-82 victory over the Lakers, which saw all of their top young prospects put on a show for a second straight game.

Immanuel Quickley finished with game-high tallies of 25 points and seven assists, Obi Toppin finished with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds while off the bench, Miles McBride - the 36th overall pick by the Oklahoma City Thunder and then traded to the Knicks - went a perfect 6-of-6 from beyond the arc en route to finishing with 22 points.

Dunks Galore

Day 4 of the Summer League continued to provide high-octane action with game-winners and buzzer-beaters, however, Thursday's (ET) action provided some of the best dunks of the Summer League. 

The lefty dunk from Gary Payton II even got a reaction out of one of the best players in the world.
