Kurt Busch was wearing the No. 45, decked out in the black-and-red like his team namesake, Michael Jordan. So it was only right that he put on a clutch display.
Busch outlasted Kyle Larson, holding off Larson's No. 3 car in the last five laps to claim the AdventHealth 400. With the victory, Busch gave Team 23XI's its first Cup Series win of the season.
The emotion read clear on the face of Busch and Hamlin, who was in tears as he greeted the Cup Series veteran. It had been a stressful day at Kansas Speedway, filled with car malfunctions and funky pit stops. But in the end, Busch was a deserving winner; he held pole position in over 100 laps and overcame Larson's late rally to take the lead in the final stretch of laps.
Busch took first, Hamlin took fourth-place and 23XI has firmly established itself as an exciting proposition in the world of motorsport.

NASCAR at Kansas live updates, highlights from AdventHealth 400
6:27 p.m. — Kurt Busch secures the checkered flag, his first win in his last 27 Cup Series races. The donuts are out and about.
6:26 p.m. — Kurt Busch pushes his lead to over a second up on Larson with two laps to go. Seems like it's going to be Kurt Busch, Kyle Larson and Kyle Busch in the top-three.
6:23 p.m. — Kurt Busch takes the lead! Larson tried to keep the outside and Busch gave him the slightest of lanes, but Larson clipped the wall ever so slightly, sending him into second place. Five laps left.
6:20 p.m. — Larson holding onto a slight lead over Kurt Busch with 13 laps to go. Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin not terribly far behind — the top-four is all within 2.3 seconds of each other.
Will be interesting to see how the tires hold up as we speed toward the final 10 laps of the race.
6:12 p.m. — Larson, Kyle Busch and Kurt Busch are all within a half second of one another. There are 28 laps left and it seems we're headed for another photo finish.
Per Bob Pockrass, Kyle Busch's team is telling him one thing: chase Larson down, just like he did last year.
KyBusch told: Just like last year. Wear him down.

6:02 p.m. — Harvick trips up and tumbles toward the infield, but uses to the wall to correct himself and stays in the top-20.
Pit road now open.
5:55 p.m. — You've got to hand it to Kurt Busch. The 23XI driver has impressed throughout today's race, leading in 90 of the 214 laps. He holds a fairly gaudy three second lead over his brother, Kyle. Looking more and more like it could be a decent showing for the Busch family.
5:39 p.m. — Elliott's whole tire falls off, sending Elliott's No. 9 in the infield. Another caution flag waved and Elliott's day is done.
5:29 p.m. — Kurt Busch trying to hold off Larson with 87 laps left. Larson's No. 5 gets inside position and passes Busch, at which point Busch gives Larson a slight slide job. Larson clipped the wall but recovered beautifully. Busch holds a lead of a little more than a second on Larson, but it could have been much more had Larson not had his head on a swivel.
5:11 p.m. — The Busch brothers lead with six laps to go from the completion of Stage 2. Reddick, who got off to a rampant start early, got sidetracked and has dropped to 30th-place. A poor showing here, coupled with a victory for Kurt or Kyle Busch, could drop him out of a playoff spot. Unlucky.
"Just try to take care of it," the No. 8 @RCRracing tells @TylerReddick as @joshbilicki drives by him @kansasspeedway #NASCAR

4:58 p.m. — Jones' team got the job done; his pit crew sliced through the wheel, slipping it off the axle in the process. They secured a new tire on top of the axle, earning plaudits from the broadcast team. Jones is now seven laps behind the leader, Team Penske's Ryan Blaney.
But at least he's still in the race. Phew.
4:52 p.m. — Erik Jones having serious wheel issues here. His car has been stuck in pit road for a little while now and his pit crew has got the sharp tools out, indicating that they may cut the passenger tire wheel out entirely. Drawing a lot of interest from fellow pit crews, as the incident happened on pit road.
Nearly 20 drivers had yet to pit, turning the race all on its head. Most racers should be on the lead lap, according to Fox's Bob Pockrass. Wild day at Kansas Speedway so far.
Erik Jones team still working on its wheel/tire. Something tells me Richard Petty never had that issue.

4:49 p.m. — Kevin Harvick is the next driver to take a spill, jolting into the middle of the track after coming off pit road. Caution flag galore!

4:36 p.m. — Byron is in trouble! He had been leading comfortably through much of the second stage but appears to have popped his tire on some debris left on the track. He is dropping like a stone in the race standings and seem unlikely to compete for the AdventHealth 400 title now.
Byron is two laps down.

4:31 p.m. — Austin Cindric has done well to overcome an uneven start. After having some car difficulties early, Cindric has driven smoothly. He sits in 30th place, comfortably behind the pace of Byron, Chastain and Kurt Busch. However, he's still doing decently, given his poor start.
4:22 p.m. — William Byron uses the inside lane to pass by Reddick and Chastain, snatching first place in the process. Chastain and Reddick are less than a second behind, though.
4:12 p.m. — Kyle Busch captures the Stage 1 green flag, outpacing Chastain and Elliott, who finish in second-place and third-place, respectively. Busch holds nearly a one-second edge over Chastain.
4:07 p.m. — Kyle Busch leads the way after 75 laps, followed by Ross Chastain's No. 1 car and Chase Elliott in third. Bell has struggled to maintain his position after a good start, falling to 16th-place.
3:56 p.m. — Another lap, another caution flag, this time for No. 99 car, Daniel Suarez. Suarez's back left tire is looking flat and gnarly, almost as if he drove over something sharp. He spun out toward the middle of the track, prompting race officials to wave the yellow flag. Unfortunate stuff.
3:49 p.m. — Bell regained the lead and his holding off Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch, who sits less than a second behind him. A lot of tight racing so far, with the pack constantly reshuffling.
3:37 p.m. — Caution flag waved as BJ McLeod spins toward the inside lane. Part of the top of McLeod's car appears to be displaced. Racers now headed to their pit crews.

3:32 p.m. — Reddick leads the way after 31 laps. Kyle Larson is in second place, less than a third of a second behind Reddick. One person who is nowhere near the front is Joey Logano. He's driving a replacement car after suffering a wreck during qualifying and has struggled to keep up with the pack so far.
3:23 p.m. — The race restart did a toll on Joe Gibbs' Racing's Christopher Bell, who entered today's race in pole position. Through 11 laps, Bell is sitting in third place, about two seconds behind Tyler Reddick's No. 8 car. It will interesting to see how Bell handles dirty air in the early parts of the race.
3:15 p.m. — Six laps in and we already have our first caution flag of the day! Chase Briscoe's No. 14 car spins off the asphalt and skews along the infield grass. Briscoe did a good job adjusting, though, and doesn't appear to have suffered any damage.
