Seven-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson had the same crew chief for 604 races. He'll now have had two in the last 22.
With just five races remaining in the Monster Energy Cup Series regular season and at risk of missing the playoffs for the first time in his career, Johnson has parted ways with crew chief Kevin Meendering and named Cliff Daniels to the position.

Daniels was Johnson's crew chief for his 2016 championship season and has been a member of Hendrick Motorsports since '14. Meedering will move to a senior competition role with Hendrick.
The move comes just one day after a disappointing 15th-place finish at Pocono Raceway in which Johnson won just the second stage of his career. Johnson currently sits in 17th position in the Cup Series standings, 12 points from Ryan Newmann in the 16th and final playoff position. The No. 48 has just three top-five and eight top-10 finishes this season.
Having not won since June 2017 at Dover, the 43-year-old Johnson is currently in the longest winless drought of his 83-win career.
Johnson parted ways with longtime crew chief Chad Knaus before last season after a 17-year relationship between the two. Knaus is currently the crew chief for William Byron who is 12th in the Cup Series standings.
Fans of the No. 48 will get their first look at Johnson's new team this Sunday at Watkins Glen for the Go Bowling at the Glen.
