Adapt or perish. That saying can relate to anything, from nature to a fight. Regarding the latter, that is how Israel Adesanya is preparing for his rematch against Alex Pereira at UFC 287 on April 8.

Pereira defends the UFC middleweight title he took from Adesanya a few months ago in New York’s Madison Square Garden. This time, the rivalry between the two, where Pereira is 3-0 across MMA and kickboxing, heads to Florida’s Miami-Dade Arena.

At UFC 281, Pereira beat Adesanya via TKO, ending a title reign from 2019 to 2022. The loss also ended Adesanya's 23-fight win streak in the middleweight division. Given his run of bad luck against Pereira, what does “The Last Stylebender” have up his sleeve this time out?

“It’s going to be different,” Adesanya told Sports Illustrated. “I can’t reveal the work I’ve put in, but I’ll let it be known on the night of the fight that I’m the best. I’ll say less and do more… I’m not trying to intimidate him. That’s a waste of energy. You can’t. And he can’t intimidate me. I have nothing to lose. I’m coming in with everything.”

In just eight MMA fights, Pereira has turned into a hard-hitting phenom. "Poatan" has six wins via knockout and is on a seven-fight win streak since losing his first bout. The former kickboxing champion is ready to continue his run. Fans will have to wait and see if he has done anything to improve, from his ground game to how he handles his weight.
