Charles Oliveira has an opportunity to become a two-time UFC lightweight champion and reclaim the title he never truly lost. In his way is the rising Islam Makhachev. The two headline the card at UFC 280 on October 22.

UFC 280 takes place inside Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.

Oliveira joined the UFC in 2010. He is 21-8 with one no-contest with the promotion. "Do Bronx" beat Michael Chandler at UFC 262 for the UFC lightweight title, but at UFC 274, he missed weight for his fight against Justin Gaethje and was stripped of the belt. Oliveira won the bout via submission, but he could not be called champion.

With a new opponent in front of him, one that is as dangerous as Makhachev, Oliveira is more than ready for the challenge.

"He'll try to take me down not through my legs, but through my hips,” Oliveira told Ag.Fight, via Brazilian MMA Legends. “He'll try to take me down and nullify my legs. He won't come dying to submit me, but rather to wear me out. But man, like I said, I'm not worried about what Makhachev can bring. I'm worried about what Charles can take there. You can be sure it won't go past the first round."

Makhachev is a former combat sambo world champion who made his pro debut in 2010. He made his UFC debut in 2015. Makhachev has won 10 in a row; his last fight was a TKO win over Bobby Green in February.
