Only one mixed martial artist will emerge victorious when Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal meet for their welterweight championship fight, but both men will walk away from UFC 261 with big checks in their pockets.

The main event of Saturday's pay-per-view should not only give Usman and Masvidal nice payouts, but also set up the winner for another major bout in the near future. UFC president Dana White has indicated that, if Usman wins, a highly anticipated rematch with Colby Covington would be next on the schedule.

"[Usman is] at a point in his career now where he's looking at, 'Who's next again?' He's coming back and gonna be facing guys that he's already beat," White said (via MMA Junkie). "So Masvidal obviously took that fight on short notice, so let's give him this fight and we can do away with all the excuses. And then, Colby Covington's next."

Before we jump too far ahead, though, here's a financial breakdown of the Usman vs. Masvidal fight.

UFC 261 purse, prize money

It's difficult to nail down exact figures, but a look at previous fights offers some insight as to how much Usman and Masvidal could earn.

Usman and Covington each took home $500,000 for their UFC 245 title fight in December 2019. That was a significant jump from the $350,000 Usman made for his UFC 235 win over Tyron Woodley in March 2019. That same year, Masvidal got a $520,000 payday for defeating Nate Diaz at UFC 244.

Based on those numbers, it's expected Usman and Masvidal each will earn at least $500,000 at UFC 261.
