Levy Marroquin said he wanted to go to a decision against Alejandro Flores, who was looking to get back into the win column after being knocked out in December. That proved to be a bad idea; Flores thoroughly outworked Marroquin and scored a unanimous decision in the main event of Combate 34 at the Arena José Sulaimán in Monterrey, Mexico, which streamed live on DAZN.

Flores was the runner-up at the 2018 "COPA COMBATE" one-night, eight-man, $100,000-grand-prize featherweight tournament last December. Unfortunately, his run to the $100K prize ended with a devastating spinning elbow from Andres Quintana. His performance against Marroquin, in which he demonstrated poise and accurate striking, should rinse the bad taste of that loss from his mouth.
Marroquin did his best to offset Flores by marching forward but ended up eating plenty of leather for his troubles. The fight ended up being filled with back-and-forth action, with much of it taking place on the feet. Flores was the busier of the two and landed more telling shots en route to a clean sweep on the scorecards with 30-27 scores.
Elsewhere on the card, Dulce Garcia, better known as “Sexy Star” in the world of pro wrestling, made her MMA debut a successful one as she defeated Mariana Ruiz by unanimous decision. The 36-year-old Garcia has tried her hand at boxing and is well known on the Lucha circuit but wanted to test herself in mixed martial arts. She fared well enough in a relatively messy affair between two fighters trying their hand in MMA. Garcia secured several takedowns, had the advantage in striking and remained in the dominant position as her opponent offered very little of a challenge.
Garcia certainly has work to do, but the unanimous decision victory should provide fuel in her gas tank as she continues her foray into MMA.
