Anderson Silva 'absolutely' interested in Georges St-Pierre showdown image

Between 2008 and 2013, Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre appeared to be destined for a superfight.

From 2006 to 2013, Silva was the UFC middleweight champion and St-Pierre was the welterweight champion from 2008 to 2013. Talks of a fight happened but never came to fruition due to St-Pierre wanting more drug testing and the UFC rejecting his proposal.

Without dance partners at this time, would this be as good a time as any to make a fight between two of the greatest champions in UFC history?

In an interview last week, St-Pierre said he wasn't interested because he believes it's a no-win situation for him and it wouldn't do much for his career. Even though St-Pierre isn't keen on the idea, would it be something that interests the 43-year-old Brazilian?

"Yeah, absolutely, Silva told Inquisitr.com. "Georges is the great name in Canada, I’m the big name in Brazil. I believe everybody in this sport (would) like to see Georges and Anderson Silva in a superfight, you know?"

For almost a year, the mere mention of a St-Pierre clash looked to be nothing more than a pipe dream. Back in October, while getting ready for a November fight with Kelvin Gastelum, it had been revealed by the United States Anti-Doping Agency that Silva tested positive for a diuretic and methyltestosterone, which is a synthetic anabolic steroid.

It was Silva's second failed drug test in the last two and a half years. He had failed an in-competition drug test for steroids in his fight with Nick Diaz at UFC 183 in Jan. 2015.  Silva was facing a four-year suspension and his career was likely coming to a close. But in July, Silva received a one-year suspension when the USADA said he unintentionally ingested a contaminated supplement that included the anabolic agent and diuretic from a Brazilian compounding pharmacy.

The former great feels a huge weight has been lifted off his shoulders. He also feels that he can now finally move forward in hopes of getting a fight with St-Pierre before his career comes to an end.

"I feel more comfortable now," Silva said. "I think because it showed the world I’m not guilty, you know? That’s great for me and for my fans and for my credibility. That’s very important for me to continue my legacy, you know?"
