Expansion side Atlanta United has gained a reputation for drawing great crowds to Bobby Dodd Stadium, its temporary home, and the July 4th contest with San Jose Earthquakes was no exception.

San Jose took an early lead through Tommy Thompson before going down to 10 men, giving the home side an opportunity to get back into the match.

And in the 55th minute Atlanta scored its first, ten minutes before striker Josef Martinez gave the Tata Martino-coached side a very temporary lead with a powerful header.

The goal sent Bobby Dodd Stadium into raptures, but veteran Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski struck for an equalizer less than a minute later, stunning the 44,974 in attendance into silence.

Atlanta would give the crowd a reason to cheer again, with two goals in the final 10 minutes as the home side secured a 4-2 victory.
