Sagna: Drogba helped sway Montreal decision image

Former Arsenal and Manchester City star Bacary Sagna says that long-time rival Didier Drogba helped him decide to join up with the Montreal Impact in Major League Soccer.

Former Impact man Drogba played for Chelsea while Sagna was with Arsenal, with fullback and striker having gone head-to-head on many occasions, though the Frenchman now calls the Ivorian "a big brother."

And Sagna says the former Impact star international's praise of the Impact was helpful in helping him decide on Montreal as a landing spot.

“He talked to me about the city and the club,” Sagna said to MLSsoccer.com. “I intend to stay here with my family. He told me that I was going to be just fine.

"He liked it here a lot. He told me the club was a family environment and that he made the right choice by coming here, that he felt good about it. Coming from a big brother, that means there is no problem.”

Sagna joined the Impact last week but has yet to play for the club, though he does feel as though he's found a home in Montreal already.

“I knew that it was going to be good here and I’m very happy to have made this choice,” he said.

“It’s all about the feeling, and I’m all about family. I think this club is a family. As soon as I spoke to the coach I realized that’s where I needed to continue my career. I listened to my heart and I am here today.”

The Impact take on the Chicago Fire on Saturday as they look to hold onto the sixth spot in Eastern Conference standings and a place in the playoffs.
