New coach, new beginning.

The Montreal Impact underwent a big transformation in the offseason, bringing in French head coach Remi Garde and making several changes to the squad.

A new outlook was needed after a disappointing 2017 campaign, as the Impact finished well outside the playoffs. With the Eastern Conference continuing to improve, Montreal had to make drastic changes in order to keep up.

And so Garde was brought in following the dismissal of previous bench boss Mauro Biello, and the Impact immediately looked to get younger and more balanced. Club legend Patrice Bernier retired at the end of the 2017 campaign, and several fellow stalwarts followed through the exit doors at Stade Saputo. Defender Hassoun Camara also hung up his boots, while Laurent Ciman, Blerim Dzemaili, Hernan Bernardello, Andres Romero and Ballou Tabla all moved on to other teams.

New to Montreal are the likes of Jeisson Vargas, Alejandro Silva, Rudy Camacho, Zakaria Diallo and Rod Fanni, along with young Canadians Michael Petrasso and Raheem Edwards. Garde's side is one with the main goal of transitioning from old to new, but with holdover Ignacio Piatti still drawing attention the Impact will have the ability to challenge for a postseason berth.

The 2018 MLS season — with a majority of the league games available to stream in Canada on DAZN — is one of turning over a new leaf for the Impact. Will Garde be able to get Montreal back to playoff glory in his first year in charge?
