Atlanta United midfielder Miguel Almiron has been named Major League Soccer Newcomer of the Year.

Almiron, 23, joined the expansion side from Argentine club Lanus in the offseason, and tallied nine goals and 14 assists in his first year in MLS.

The Paraguay international helped Atlanta United to a 14-8-8 record and a fourth-place finish in the Eastern Conference, and was also named a finalist for the Landon Donovan MLS MVP award.

Chicago Fire striker Nemanja Nikolic finished second in the voting for the award, which recognizes the year’s most impactful new MLS player who has prior professional experience.

Almiron's teammate Josef Martinez finished third, followed by Toronto FC's Victor Vazquez and Chicago's Bastian Schweinsteiger.
