Yankees trade rumors: Gleyber Torres ‘off limits’ in discussions for starter image

Gleyber Torres isn’t going anywhere.

Multiple teams have asked about New York’s willingness to include the 22-year-old infielder in a deal for a pitcher, according to a report from MLB Insider Jon Heyman. Torres, however, “seems to be off limits” in trade discussions, the report says.

Torres is slashing .291/.358/.504 with 20 home runs and 55 RBIs in 97 games this year. He made his debut in 2018 and has been named an All-Star in both of his MLB seasons

The Yankees are reportedly hoping to add at least one starter before the July 31 deadline and had been in “regular contact” with the Blue Jays about Marcus Stroman. But, Toronto sent Stroman to the Mets on Sunday in exchange for two pitching prospects.

The Blue Jays wanted the Yankees to include Torres in a trade for Stroman, according to MLB.com.

"I wouldn't say anybody is untouchable," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said last week, via MLB.com. "I would just say some are more realistic than others. If you are going to play in certain waters, there is going to be only a smaller category of legitimate options that I would be interested in with certain guys."

The Yankees have also been linked to Trevor Bauer, Madison Bumgarner, Zack Wheeler, Noah Syndergaard, Robbie Ray and Mike Minor. They’re reportedly "willing to consider" moving outfielder Clint Frazier or infielder Miguel Andujar this month.

"I think we've entered this process at the deadline with a pretty good feel of what we'd like to do, what we're willing to pay for it, and also having the built-in discipline of walking away if we don't find the right matches under those circumstances," Cashman said.

The Yankees entered play Monday in first place of the American League East with a 67-38 record.
