Yankees' Mike Tauchman (calf) likely out for season, Aaron Boone says image

It appears Mike Tauchman might not play for New York again in 2019.

The Yankees outfielder is expected to miss six to eight weeks after suffering a Grade 2 calf strain while fielding a ball during his team's 10-5 victory over the Red Sox on Sunday. The postseason begins next month and New York manager Aaron Boone told reporters Monday that Tauchman is most likely out for the season.

The outfielder was one of the faces of the Yankees' next-man-up movement brought on by their injury problems in 2019. He's slashed .277/.361/.504 with 13 homers in his first year with the team. Boone said he expects Cameron Maybin, Clint Frazier and Tyler Wade to get more time in Tauchman's absence.

On the bright side, Boone also said Giancarlo Stanton might return next week to play in his first game since June, which would give New York a huge boost.

The Yankees have a 94-50 record and sit atop the American League East.
