Game 2 of the World Series will feature a pitching duel between two reliable arms: Jordan Montgomery versus Merrill Kelly.
WORLD SERIES LIVE: Follow Diamondbacks vs. Rangers updates from Game 2
Montgomery has yet to lose a game this postseason, boasting a 3-0 record to go with a 2.16 ERA and 17 strikeouts over 25.0 innings pitched. Although he has been solid as a starter for the Rangers, we last saw him take the mound in relief in Game 7 against the Astros. Montgomery came in for a struggling Max Scherzer and threw 2.1 scoreless innings to earn the win and advance Texas to the World Series.
Kelly had a rough outing in Game 2 of the NLCS against the Phillies but bounced back in Game 6 to help the Diamondbacks force a Game 7. The righty had some of his best stuff, only allowing one earned run with eight strikeouts over 5.0 innings to put Arizona in a position to take the must-win game to keep its season alive.
After Adolis Garcia powered Texas to a Game 1 victory with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning, the Diamondbacks will need Kelly to bring his A-game against a hot Rangers lineup to try and even the series before it returns to Arizona for Games 3, 4 and 5.
