The Astros and Braves both have to be coming into the World Series feeling pretty good about their Championship Series performances.

Houston, facing the team that eliminated it in 2018, came back from being outscored 21-8 in Games 2 and 3 of the ALCS by Boston to win three straight games. The Astros beat up on the Red Sox by a 23-3 margin in those final three to reach their third Fall Classic in five years.

Atlanta, for the second straight year, went up 3-1 over the heavily favored Dodgers and then lost Game 5, but it shut down the Los Angeles bats in Game 6 to advance to its first World Series since 1999. Now, the franchise will pursue its first world title since 1995.

These two teams have never met in the World Series before, but that doesn't mean there isn't postseason history between them. They most recently clashed in the 2005 NLDS, when the Astros still called the National League Central home. Houston came out on top en route to the franchise's first World Series appearance. The former NL West squads also met in the 1997, 1999, 2001 and 2004 playoffs.

Atlanta holds a 12-7 advantage over Houston in the postseason.

World Series schedule 2021

MLB-Postseason-102421-MLB

All World Series games will be carried by Fox. Because the Astros (95-67) finished with a better record than the Braves (88-73), Houston is considered the top seed. That means the first two games and the last two games (if necessary) of the best-of-seven series will be at Minute Maid Park in Houston, while the middle three games (Game 5 only if necessary) will be at Truist Park in Atlanta.
