Lucas Giolito threw the first no-hitter of his career on Tuesday — and the first of the 2020 MLB season — in a 4-0 shutout of the Pirates.

The right-handed ace, 26, walked one batter and threw 101 pitches in the effort. He also struck out 13, giving him the first no-hitter in White Sox history with 10-plus strikeouts. His is the 19th no-hitter in club history.

Here's the moment Giolot sealed his name in MLB history. Also, nice defensive stop by rightfielder Adam Engel — who filled in for Nomar Mazara on Tuesday — to seal the deal with a shoestring catch at a strange angle.

TRADE RUMORS: J.T. Realmuto, Trevor Bauer lead list of players who could be dealt before deadline

Per baseball analyst Ryan Spaeder, Giolito's no-hitter is distinct in that no other pitcher can claim one with both more strikeouts and fewer pitches:

Engel's catch wasn't the only impressive effort to preserve Giolito's no-hitter; shortstop Tim Anderson made a strong defensive play in the seventh, moving right to field a ground ball off the bat of Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds. His throw to first was low, but first baseman Jose Abreu managed to scoop it up to keep the no-hitter intact.

Twitter, of course, was quick to react to the history-making moment:
