LSU entered Tuesday needing three wins in three days to reach the College World Series semifinals.
The Tigers now have two of them under their belt.
LSU overcame an early 2-0 deficit to defeat Wake Forest 5-2 on Wednesday, holding the top-ranked Demon Deacons scoreless for the final seven innings and staving off elimination. Now, Thursday's game will determine who stays alive.
It will be a battle of aces, as phenom Paul Skenes is set to get the ball for LSU while Rhett Lowder, a premier MLB Draft prospect himself, is in line to start for Wake Forest. A struggling Demon Deacons lineup facing a pitcher as dominant as Skenes could be the defining storyline of the game.

Wake Forest had a prolific offense in the regular season but has scored just eight runs in three games during this College World Series. After failing to take advantage of run-scoring opportunities in Wednesday's loss, Skenes is unlikely to make life any easier for Brock Wilken and the rest of the lineup.
If Wake Forest manages to keep its season alive, Thursday would mark the final collegiate games for LSU star Dylan Crews in addition to Skenes. That's been true for each of the Crews' last two games, however, and LSU has answered the call each time by avoiding elimination.
