Devon Travis' early season struggles have cost him his spot on the Blue Jays' roster.

Toronto assigned the struggling second baseman to the Buffalo Bisons, their Triple-A affiliate, ahead of Sunday afternoon's contest against the Texas Rangers. Right-handed pitcher Carlos Ramirez will join the Jays from Buffalo in a corresponding move.

In 18 games this season, Travis is hitting .148 (9-61) and has just one home run and three RBI to his credit. The 27-year-old, who has been overshadowed recently by Lourdes Gurriel Jr., missed over 100 games last season with a knee injury.

Ramirez made his major-league debut with the Blue Jays last September, throwing two scoreless innings in a loss to the Orioles. The 27-year-old appeared in 12 games over the final month of the 2017 season, recording a 2.70 ERA in 16 2/3 innings of work.
