Blue Jays top prospect Ryan Borucki was scratched from his scheduled start for Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday and his next outing will reportedly be in the majors, according to Sportsnet.

Aaron Sanchez -- along with Jaime Garcia -- hit the disabled list on Saturday, leaving Toronto without a scheduled starter on Tuesday against the Houston Astros. Borucki, the Blue Jays’ eighth-best prospect, according to MLB.com, is expected take Sanchez's place.

Borucki, 24, was Toronto’s 15th round pick in the 2012 MLB Draft. The left-hander did not pitch above High-A until 2017, when he posted an 8-8 record with a 2.93 ERA in 27 games (26 starts) across three levels in the Blue Jays’ system. Borucki was named the best minor-league pitcher in Toronto’s system by MLBPipeline.com last year.

In 13 starts for the Bisons this season, Borucki has gone 6-5 with a 3.27 ERA in 77 innings. Borucki also punched out 58 batters while pitching to a 1.169 WHIP.

If Borucki pitches well, it’s possible there may be a permanent slot in the rotation.

The veteran Garcia struggled before being placed on the DL, going 0-6 in his past 10 starts. Before the injury, manager John Gibbons indicated this week that Garcia may be moved to the bullpen.
