Grichuk and first baseman Justin Smoak chased a fly ball in foul territory during the fourth inning when Grichuk slid and struck a stool held by a security guard. Grichuk laid face down for several minutes before the Blue Jays' trainer held a towel to Grichuk's face, which had obvious bleeding and swelling above the bridge of his nose.

The Blue Jays announced that Grichuk is in routine concussion evaluation and will receive follow-up imaging to his face.

"He's a pretty boy, man," Blue Jays skipper John Gibbons said after the game. "You don't want to mess with that face."

Toronto has several on-field security guards who use metal chairs along the right and left field lines. Policy states that the guards are required to get up and move their chair to avoid a disruption of play, per MLB.com.

Before exiting the game, Grichuk went 0-for-2 with a pair of strikeouts. The 27-year-old has played well for Toronto after a rough start to the season, slashing .247/.303/.488 with 21 home runs and 51 runs batted in. Grichuk missed time earlier this season with a right knee sprain.
