Yankees right-hander Sonny Gray faced his old team, the Athletics, for the first time Friday night. Things did not go well for him.

Gray was knocked around for five runs and nine hits (two home runs) over five innings. Oakland's Khris Davis and Matt Chapman took him deep in the second.

POWER RANKINGS: Yankees vie for top spot

The A's dealt their former ace to New York last July 31 for a package of prospects. One of the players Oakland obtained in the deal, Dustin Fowler, was in the lineup Friday, and he gained a bit of his own revenge at Gray's expense with his first major league hit, a single.

Fowler's family was in the stands and celebrated the moment.

Fowler has his own interesting story: He suffered a serious knee injury in his major league debut with the Yankees last year before he was able to get an at-bat. Now he has a handful of ABs and a hit with his new club.
