Former Mets pitcher and current SNY analyst Ron Darling’s surgery to remove a mass in his chest "went well," his TV play-by-play partner, Gary Cohen, said Tuesday night during the broadcast of the Mets’ 14-3 loss to the Phillies, according to multiple media reports.

Cohen and former teammate Keith Hernandez, also an analyst, wished Darling "a speedy and easy recovery" from the booth.

Darling, 58, announced Saturday that a series of tests had revealed a large mass in his chest that would require the surgery.

He said doctors have told him that "if there are no complications I should be back on air talking baseball sometime next month."

Darling also is an analyst for TBS, but its regular-season MLB coverage doesn’t start until after the All-Star break, well after Darling said he expects to return. He frequently appears on MLB Network, too.

In Darling's absence, former Mets player and SNY studio analyst Todd Zeile will fill in, the Mets said.

Darling spent the first eight-plus seasons of a 13-year MLB career with the Mets. The right-hander was 136-116 in a career that included stints with the Expos and Athletics.
