Rays prospect Brent Honeywell suffers bullpen injury, reportedly ends season image

Rays fans are going to have to wait even longer to see their top pitching prospect make his MLB debut.

Brent Honeywell fractured a bone in his elbow during a bullpen session and is once again out for the season, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Honeywell also missed all of 2018 after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He potentially would have been in Tampa Bay's rotation to start that year.

He will also need surgery on his elbow to repair his current injury.

Honeywell, the 24-year-old righty, has been a top prospect in baseball since the 2015 season one year after he was taken with the 72nd pick in 2014.

He started the Futures Game in 2017 and was named the MVP of the game.

Honeywell has a 2.88 career ERA in the minor leagues with 458 strikeouts in 416 innings pitched.

He has never posted an ERA higher than 3.64 in the minors.
