It came down to the final game of the regular season for the AL West crown to be decided between the Rangers and Astros. It's only fitting it will come down to a Game 7 to see which one goes to the World Series.
LIVE: Follow Rangers vs. Astros updates from ALCS Game 7
Houston came to Arlington and swept the Rangers at home to return to Houston needing only a game to win the ALCS. Now, after dropping a crushing 9-2 contest to Texas in Game 6, the Astros find themselves once again in the uncomfortable position of needing to be the first home team to win a playoff game to claim a series.
The Astros, of course, have found themselves here before. Back in the 2019 World Series between the Nationals and Astros, neither team won a single game at home. The problem for Houston? There were four games at home, and those four games all resulted in Washington wins.
You want to talk about some more parallels: the starter for the Nationals in that Game 7? Max Scherzer. Who will toe the rubber for the Rangers in Game 7 of the 2023 ALCS? Max Scherzer.

Scherzer's first outing since early September wasn't one to remember. The three-time Cy Young winner, acquired at the trade deadline, coughed up five runs in four innings as the Astros picked up the 8-5 win, their first win of the series.
Houston will hand the ball to Cristian Javier, who has once again been rock solid in the playoffs. He has allowed just two earned runs this postseason, both coming against the Rangers in Game 3, when he went 5.2 frames with three strikeouts, three hits and one walk allowed. In his career, he has a 2.08 postseason ERA.
