Orioles set standard for embarrassing defense with failed rundown image

The Orioles have just 14 wins out of 43 games this season. Coincidentally, they may have done 14 things wrong in one defensive sequence Thursday night.

After the Indians loaded the bases with one out in the seventh inning of an eventual 14-7 drubbing, Cleveland infielder Jason Kipnis hit a slow chopper to second base.

Baltimore should have recorded at least one out from there, as even a Little League team could do, but things went bad in a hurry when second baseman Hanser Alberto seemingly forgot he was allowed to tag Francisco Lindor on the basepaths. Instead of applying the tag, Alberto made a panic throw to Chris Davis at first, which Kipnis beat. Davis then tried to chase Lindor to second base, but gave up on that journey when Cleveland outfielder Leonys Martin broke for home. Davis' throw to the plate came in late, completing the meltdown.

Got all of that? Take a look for yourself.

While the Orioles have been bad all season, this may have been their low point.

Was it the worst defensive play in baseball this season, though? You'll have to decide for yourself.
