Orioles’ Brandon Hyde addresses incident with Chris Davis: 'It's unfortunate it happened in the dugout' image

The Orioles’ season continues to spiral.

Baltimore first baseman Chris Davis was removed from Wednesday’s game against the Yankees in the fifth inning after he had to be restrained from going after manager Brandon Hyde in the dugout.

Hyde appeared to say something to Davis, who then charged at his manager. The 33-year-old was held back by Baltimore hitting coach Don Long and teammate Mark Trumbo.

Baltimore station MASN captured the incident on its broadcast:

“We had words and I took him out of the game," Hyde said, via MASN. "Me and Chris have a good relationship. And these things happen in competitive environments. It was something that will pass and we'll get through it, but it's just unfortunate it happened in the dugout."

Davis has been dreadful this year as he’s slashing.183/.270/.321 with nine home runs and 31 RBIs in 83 games. He also hit just .168 last season. Davis signed a seven-year, $161 million contract with the Orioles in 2016.

The Orioles went on to lose, 14-2. They've been one of the worst teams in MLB this season and finished play Wednesday with a 38-76 record.
