Noah Syndergaard trade rumors: Mets ace says, ‘I think I’m staying put’ image

Noah Syndergaard doesn't think he's going anywhere anytime soon.

The Mets ace addressed recent trade speculation after his start against the White Sox on Tuesday, saying the rumors are “getting kind of old.”

"I don't think anything is going to happen … I think I'm staying put," Syndergaard said (via SNY). "It's always in the back of my mind. I try not to harp on things that are outside of my control."

Syndergaard said he's been in contact with the Mets' front office and doesn't think his status with New York will change anytime soon, despite his name being linked to a variety of trade possibilities. Most recently, he has been connected to the Padres and Yankees, though those conversations reportedly have died down. MLB Network indicated Wednesday a deal with San Diego “feels like a long shot."

"It's encouraging at the same time, I guess I'm a hot commodity at some point," Syndergaard added. "Now it's starting to get kind of old."

Syndergaard holds a 7-5 record with a 4.10 ERA in 21 starts this season. The Mets reportedly were "fully intent" on moving the right-hander and wanted "multiple top prospects” in exchange for him. He remains an attractive asset because he’ll be under team control through the 2021 season.

If the Mets keep Syndergaard through Wednesday's trade deadline, they could still deal another starter in pending free agent Zack Wheeler. Closer Edwin Diaz and third baseman Todd Frazier could also be on the move from New York.

“I still hope everyone is in this clubhouse tomorrow, past July 31,” Syndergaard said. “The sky’s the limit still.”
